DIY Denim Jacket

After,
Before, Bleaching Part

Ph, Private

The past week I have been working on a denim jacket. I had seen pictures of bleached denim, distressed denim and ombrè denim; so I was really in need of something of a look-a-like. I decided to bleach the bottom part of a vintage Levi's denim jacket, to create a sort of ombrè effect. I also damaged some parts of the jacket, especially a large part on the back.

How to do this yourself:
You'll need: Denim jacket, bleach, bucket, gloves, seam ripper, piece of denim, textile glue, scissors.

Bleach
1. Put your jacket in the bucket filled with water, before adding bleach, make sure your jacket is wet.
2. Add halve a bottle of bleach. (Make sure that only the parts - bottom part in my case - you want to bleach are in the water-bleach mixture.)
3. Leave it in for about 5 hours. After 4 hours I dunked the jacket a bit further into the bucket, to make the ombrè-effect more fluid.
4. If you're happy with the bleach effect, wash the jacket once.

Distressed
5. Make some horizontal cuts on the places you would like to have distressed.
6. Loosen up the fabric with a needle and remove the blue fibers, so the white horizontal fibers will be visible.
7. After doing so, loosen up the sides with a seam ripper to make it look more messy and vintage.
8. Glue a large piece of denim underneath, to make it more firm.

Have fun, more outfit pictures are coming on Monday!
